What Is Activity Capture?

image

Activity capture is the automatic logging of sales interactions, calls, emails, meetings, and texts, to the CRM records they belong to. It removes manual data entry from the rep’s day and, more importantly, removes the choice of whether to log something at all.

How Does Activity Capture Work?

A connector or integration watches the systems where interactions happen, then matches each one to a CRM record and writes it there.

Matching is the part that determines whether it works. An email is matched by address, a call by phone number, a meeting by attendee. When the identifier exists on a record, the activity attaches cleanly. When it doesn’t, the activity either lands on the wrong record, creates a duplicate, or drops into an unassigned pile.

That’s why capture quality tracks so closely with CRM data hygiene. A contact with one email and no direct dial will capture a fraction of what actually happened with them.

What Does Activity Capture Miss?

Two things, and both are why teams with capture in place still have incomplete records.

The first is outcome. Capture records that a twelve-minute call occurred. It doesn’t record that the buyer named a competitor or pushed the timeline to next quarter. That’s what a call disposition is for, and no amount of automatic logging supplies it.

The second is anything happening outside the connected systems. A conversation on a personal mobile, a hallway meeting at a conference, a text sent from a rep’s own phone. Capture only sees the tools it’s wired into, which is the argument for consolidating channels rather than adding connectors.

Why Does Activity Capture Matter?

Because every system reading the CRM inherits whatever the CRM was told. Forecast accuracy depends on knowing which deals are being worked. AI deal scoring reasons over activity history. Coaching conversations rest on what a manager can see happened. All three degrade quietly when logging depends on a rep’s memory at the end of a long day.

There’s a rep-side argument too, and it’s the one that gets adoption. Manual logging is unpaid admin work that nobody enjoys and everyone shortcuts. Removing it is a productivity gain before it’s a data gain.

How Conquer Handles Activity Capture

Most activity capture is retrofit. The call happens in a dialer, the dialer syncs to Salesforce afterward, and the fidelity of the record depends on what survives the handoff between two systems.

Conquer’s dialer and texting are built on the Salesforce platform itself, so there is no handoff. The call is placed from the record, and the activity is created on it, because they are the same transaction rather than two events being reconciled.

Dispositions and call outcomes land alongside the log rather than arriving separately, which is the part retrofit capture usually can’t deliver.

If your reps stopped logging calls tomorrow, your Salesforce records would look the same.
